In the Forest Under Night by Matthew Stewart - This is a scene from the tale by J.R.R. Tolkien that appears in both The Silmarillion and in a longer form in The Children of Hurin. Gwindor is a Noldor Elf lord captured in “The Battle of Unnumbered Tears”. At this catastrophic defeat Gwindor was kept alive as a slave. He escaped into the forest Taur-nu-Fuin, which means “great forest under night”. He lost a hand in his escape, and carries a Feanorian lamp.
